Cancer is one of the most common causes of death in the world. There are actually several types of cancer. This includes bone cancer, brain cancer, and liver cancer just to name a few. Prostate cancer, on the other hand is a cancer characterized by the abnormal growth of cells in the prostate gland.
Prostate gland consists the reproductive system, thus the first thing that will happen if a person is diagnose with prostate cancer is the spread of cancer cells along the reproductive organ, bones, and nearby systems within the body. Prostate cancer is categorized into stages, though the worst is Stage 4 or the terminal stage. What normally happens during the terminal stage? What are the things that the patient feels when he is in terminal stage?
Stage 4 of terminal cancer is characterized by hot spots in the spine, ribs, skull, shoulder, and bones of the hips. The patient vomits a lot, and normally out of mind. Since cancer cells tend to spread out, often referred to as metastatic prostate cancer, the cancer cells from the prostate are shredding harmful similar cells toward other systems of the body including bones. We are aware that this stage of cancer is almost impossible to cure since it is in the terminal stage and might eventually lead to death.
The symptoms of prostate cancer differ from person to person. It may depend on the patient's physical status, how he deals with it, and how he manages the illness. Some people might think that if prostate cancer reaches stage 4, the patient did not pay attention to it, causing it to worsen. It is a fallacy. Some people, even if they have ample medications reaches this stage because the cancer cells are growing erroneously towards other parts of the human system that cannot be treated all at ones.
Even if the person undergoes therapy, for instance, the cancer cells reach the bones, and other organs of the body, the prostate cancer stage will continue to advance. At some point, the patient may vomit a lot due to the reaction of his body towards the medications that is given to him. Vomiting is one of the complications of getting stage 4 prostate cancer and the patient will definitely be weak.
Stage 4 cancer patients are hard to deal with. They already have an impression that they will die. They tend to be in self pity and normally they are talking about death. They start to accept that they will pass away. For these types of patient, encouragement and companionship is very important. We have to be there for them every step of the way to let them feel that we really care.
We have to let them feel that they are special in the sense that they are a part of us and we are happy that they are a part of our life. These people just want our reassurance that we will be ok even if they are gone. While preparing themselves for all the possibilities, they want us to prepare as well. Just let them feel that being with them and being a part of their life is one of the greatest things that had happened to us and we are thankful to have them with us even for a limited time
