Windows Vista offers great functionality, but what happens when it is initially installed into a system running on an older version where the system resources are not enough to make maximum use of its features. Of course, here you need to uninstall it. Here are some important steps to uninstall Windows Vista:
Uninstalling Windows Vista when you have upgraded from Windows XP
Step 1 - Take a back up of all your files so that all information stored in your system is placed in a secure place. Create a MS-DOS boot CD. If you do not know how to do this, check out allbootdisks. You can find all files necessary for creating an MS-DOS boot CD in this site.
Step 2 - Check the priority of your CD ROM drive. It must be set at the highest priority as otherwise MS-DOS boot CD will not load properly. It is necessary for the MS-DOS boot CD to load before Vista. You can check the priority by checking your BIOS settings.
Step 3 - Insert the MS-DOS boot CD into your drive and restart the system. On restart, the Setup menu will appear. Select 'R" to repair an existing installation in the setup menu.
Step 4 - Once you type 'R', specify fixboot C:\. Before you do this, you should check up if the Vista root is in the C drive. Otherwise you have to replace the letter 'C' with the appropriate drive letter.
Step 5: Type fixmbr C:\ followed by the command 'Exit'. Restart your system and ensure that the MS-DOS boot CD is placed in the CD-ROM drive.
Step 6 - Go to the Command prompt to reformat your hard drive. Type the command format C:/ to carry this out and after the reformatting process is complete, you should restart your system. This effectively erases windows Vita from your system.
Step 7 - Reinstall windows XP, by using a Windows XP installation CD. After XP is installed, the process will be completed.
